The Interview Process

There are three types of interviews that you may encounter during our summer associate recruiting process. We’ve provided a brief outline of what you can expect during each of these three scenarios.

An on-campus interview or direct resume submission
A telephone screen by practice group
An office visit

An on-campus interview or direct resume submission:
If N&R participates in a recruitment event at your law school, or if you plan to attend a recruiting symposium where we are present, we prefer that you use that avenue to contact us. We have developed relationships with those schools and organizations that enable us to review and meet with applicants very efficiently.

Otherwise, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining your interests to our recruiting coordinator,
Pat Greco. All applicants that contact N&R, through any means, are given equal consideration.

You may meet with one or more attorneys from our office in a brief interview. We will communicate the results of the interview to you within a matter of several days to several weeks.

A telephone screen by practice group:
Occasionally, leaders of particular practice groups within the firm will contact applicants for further discussion before arranging an office visit. If, for example, the firm is searching for a candidate with a particular technical background, an attorney may contact the candidate by phone to discuss his or her particular experience and qualifications in detail.

An office visit:

The final step in the interview process is an office visit. Invited applicants travel to Atlanta at the firm’s expense to visit our office and meet our attorneys, patent agents, paralegals and staff. Typically, office visits last a full day.

If the candidate’s travel schedule permits, we will arrange dinner with several attorneys at an area restaurant. The atmosphere is casual; the goal is to welcome the candidate and make introductions in a relaxed setting.

The office visit is somewhat unconventional. All attorneys in our office are invited to stop in and meet every candidate that visits the office. We reserve a conference room with ample seating to accommodate a group of attorneys. Throughout the day, small groups of attorneys will join a candidate in the conference room for interview sessions. We believe that both the candidate and N&R derive great value from having many of our attorneys participate in the interview. This arrangement provides a true sense of the variety of personalities and professional backgrounds that make up our firm.
